The reason why only female mosquitoes transmit malaria is because they are the only ones that feed on blood. Female mosquitoes that are carrying eggs need blood meals to mature the eggs. They feed on humans to get the blood meal and in the process parasites in their saliva can pass into the human starting a malaria infection in the person. male mosquitoes do not carry eggs and therefore do no feed on blood.
