Bone are living tissues and like all tissues the basic unit is a cell. Bones are made of cells, osteoblasts, osteocytes and osteoclasts. Additional minerals carbon and calcium complete a bone. The structure of bones is very interesting and complex. In short there is an outer thin layer of connective tissue, a hard part of compact bone, a soft inner part called trabecular and a hollow innermost area. The thin outer layer supplies blood to bone and provides anchor for muscle. The second layer is made up of hard matrix that make bones strong to support the body. The inner layer is spongy. In the centre of the bone is hollow and here you will find bone marrow. This is the pulp like thing you see inside bones. Blood cell are made in the bone marrow. Just check when you eat chicken whether you can identify all the different parts of the bone 🙂
