• Question: in which part of a cell does respiration take place?

      The initial phase (glycolysis) takes place in the cytoplasm with the latter part (Krebs/Citric acid cycle) taking place in the mitochondria. Unfortunately many text books simply report that the whole process takes place in the mitochondria.
